Helen Draves working on sculpture

Helen Draves

Sculpting Time, Memory, and the Human Journey

Helen Draves is a New York–based sculptor whose work centers on time as the
defining force of human existence. Time—its weight, passage, memory, and
persistence—has long shaped her artistic language, returning repeatedly as
the core theme of her work.

After a period of uncertainty and searching for direction, a decisive turning
point came while working on a sculpture placing a figure upon the hand of a
clock. In that moment, she recognized with clarity that she was, and had
always been, a sculptor of time.

Through ceramic, bronze, and steel, she creates sculptural forms that embody
endurance, movement, tension, and quiet resilience. Rings, torsos, clock hands,
and ascending structures appear throughout her work, symbolizing the human
journey—carrying time while moving forward through its passage.

For Helen, sculpture is the writing of time through material—like composing
poetry in bronze, ceramic, and steel. —> Whole Bio
